ABOUT THE BUILD
This installation is a re-imagining of a 2007 installation I created in Second Life, which itself was based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story “The Masque of the Red Death,” in which the character Prince Prospero and his wealthy cohorts hide themselves away from a plague ravaging the land, believing that their wealth and status will protect them. It was also inspired by the audio narration of that tale by actor Gabriel Byrne, from the album Closed on Account of Rabies, a double-CD with poems and tales of Edgar Allan Poe performed by various artists.
In my 2020 installation, I have incorporated issues from contemporary US society, including police brutality, devastating wildfires, and the covid-19 pandemic.
