I've begun the process of undergoing a permanent form of birth control called Essure, and I figured I may as well document my experience.
My first appointment was this past Monday. It consisted of a consultation about the procedure, and a regular routine exam. I also was given a progesterone-only birth control pill regimen to take in order to prepare my body for the surgery. I am a bit nervous and intimidated by this whole process, and scared as hell to be on the Pill again (last couple of times I took it, in my early 20s, it gave me horrible side effects), but my doctor is amazing and reassuring. I feel that I am in very capable hands. Took the first pill at midnight Monday going into Tuesday. I've had a considerable amount of anxiety over it, but I might only have to be on it for a month or so anyway. And once the procedure's done I never have to worry about this sort of shit ever again. The next phase is a pre-op appointment, which I will be going to in a couple of weeks. If all goes as planned, I should be getting the procedure done the following week. More updates to follow.
