Getting Fixed, Part 2 -- Pre-op consultation

About a week and a half ago, I had my second appointment to go over all of the details of the Essure procedure, including all of the possible (but not likely) risks.  The surgery is minimally invasive, with no incisions necessary.  I will be heavily sedated, but it isn't likely that I will be required to be put under completely.  The recovery time is usually very rapid and most patients are able to return to work and most regular activities the following day.  I don't even need to take antibiotics afterward.

My surgery is scheduled for this coming Thursday, June 7th.

I've definitely had moments of anxiety about the whole process.  At this point, the thing I am most nervous about is getting an IV inserted -- I've never had one before, and I am freaked out by needles.  I'm also hoping that I will be able to afford to pay off the portion that is not covered by my insurance; 80% will be covered after a $400 (yikes) deductible, but it's not a cheap procedure.

Ah well.  By this time next week, the worst will be over.  I will have a follow-up appointment three months later to make sure that everything is in place as it should be, and then I'll never have to worry about birth control again.  I will be free of that burden forever.

In the meantime, I will continue to stay on the Pill I've been taking (Micronor) for the next several months.  As of today, I've been on it for a whole month, and I am cautiously optimistic to report that the side effects have been minimal thus far.  Perhaps a bit more acne; some spotting in between my periods, but nothing severe; perhaps a bit more emotional/moody, but I am a mixed rollercoaster of 'fun' emotions anyway.  If I can endure the next few months, I'll be golden.
